Talon Metals Corp Makes Massive Sulfide Discovery at Tamarack Nickel Mine in Minnesota, Potentially Significantly Expanding Copper-Nickel-Cobalt Resources.
On the 26th, the company announced in a press release that it has incorporated new drilling results into a resource update to support environmental permitting and prepare for a feasibility study. During the process, the exploration team re-examined a historical drill hole that intersected significant mineralization at 707.75 meters depth, yielding an 8.25-meter interval with 95% sulfide content.
This marks the company’s second major discovery in five months. In October 2024, Talon announced the discovery of the Boulderdash copper-nickel deposit in neighboring Michigan.
The new discovery at Tamarack lies approximately 150 meters below and 50 meters south of the existing resource boundary. Previous drilling in this area had intersected 7.74 meters of massive sulfides grading 8.01% nickel and 2.87% copper.
Talon noted that this location is significant as it may represent a lateral extension of the orebody, where insufficient drilling has been conducted. The company suggests this could host the highest-grade copper-nickel mineralization found at Tamarack to date.
The timing of the discovery is also strategic, coming shortly after President Trump signed an executive order to expand critical mineral production.
“Talon is well-positioned—we operate the only team in the U.S. integrating geophysics and drilling to discover new copper-nickel-cobalt deposits,” said CEO Henri van Rooyen.
Brian Goldner, Talon’s Chief Exploration Officer, explained the mineralization model at Tamarack: “Nickel-rich fluids migrated downward through the intrusion and accumulated at the base of the massive sulfide unit.”
“This type of enrichment is seen in some of the world’s highest-grade nickel deposits, such as Russia’s Norilsk, further underscoring Tamarack’s potential to be a world-class deposit.”
Following the discovery, Talon has announced plans for follow-up drilling. An electromagnetic survey conducted near the discovery hole has already identified a new anomaly.
Currently, the Tamarack project holds 8.6 million tonnes of indicated resources grading 1.73% nickel and 0.92% copper, along with 8.5 million tonnes of inferred resources grading 0.83% nickel and 0.55% copper.
