According to Mining.com, citing Reuters, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Wednesday that the country's copper production rose 10.7% in August from a year earlier, the highest monthly output so far this year, but the cumulative production in the first eight months is still lower than the same period last year.

This follows five consecutive months of year-on-year declines in Peruvian copper production.

In August, Peru's copper production was 246,568 tons, and the cumulative production in the first eight months was 1.76 million tons, down 0.7% year-on-year.

In Peru, the world's third-largest copper producer, August's increase was driven by a 26.5% year-on-year increase at Glencore's Antamina mine.

At the same time, Cerro Verde Copper production increased by 5.2 per cent and Southern Peru Copper production increased by 11.2 per cent.

Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines said: "The increase in production at Antamina due to higher mining grades, together with the increase in production at Southern Copper, partially offset the decrease in production at other mines."

Peru's government expects to produce 2.8 million tonnes of copper this year.
